December Newsletter DHBC

Saint John, the apostle of love, writes to his beloved children reminding them of the Father’s love. Real love is not that we love God, but that He loves us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. The love of God is shown to us in the person of Christ. The love of God is shown to us in the Cross, where the crucified body of Christ hung. The love of God is also shown to us in a manger, that was situated in a stable, because there was no room in the Inn. This time of year most of us forget why this holy day exists. Most people don’t remember the significance or don’t care what truly took place over two thousand years ago. God’s Word, the Bible, records the birth of Christ, who was to save the world from their sin. How do you celebrate what Biblical history has recorded many seasons ago? What gift can we bring our Savior this year? Before you begin your list and check it twice, have you given much thought to what took place so we could have a relationship with our God? This December don’t indulge in yourself. Think of the love of God as He has loved you. Let’s love others and not lose the love he sends our way. In order to keep the celebration going, celebrate Him, not you, as we touch lives and build meaningful relationships at Christmas, to the Glory of God. Here is a hymn that helps us keep our prospective on the true meaning of this Holy Day called Christmas.

Love Came Down at Christmas / by Christina G. Rossett, 1830-1894
Love came down at Christmas, Love all lovely, Love divine;
Love was born at Christmas; Star and angel gave the sign.
Worship we the God-head, Love incarnate, Love divine;
Worship we our Jesus, But where with for sacred sign?
Love shall be our token; Love be yours and love be mine;
Love to God and all men, Love for plea and gift and sign.
