Pastors’ Pen~

The Apostle of Love, John, writes in First John 3 that Christ-Followers, who understand the gospel, will love. That is a plain and simple statement to understand. I heard a mom tell her children one day, “You kids will love each other, even it kills you!” When you’re walking with Christ there will be a love for others as Christ-Followers were commanded to love. A world so loved by God should be loved by us! The love of God should move us to pray and to want to see individuals experience the same love we have, especially to a blind world that can’t see Christ.

What have you done lately to communicate God’s love to those whom you know? Real love is an action, not a feeling. It produces sacrificial giving. The greatest act of love is giving oneself for/to others. How do we lay down our lives? That is done by serving others with no thought of receiving anything in return. Sometimes it is easier to say that we’ll take a bullet for others than to truly live for them. When did you recently put the needs of others above your needs? Jesus taught this principle of love in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down His life for His friends!”

Matthew Henry said: The example of God and Christ should inflame our hearts with this holy love.” Our great God gave His son to die for us. We have seen His miracles. We have seen the mystery of His divine love. God redeemed His church with His own son’s blood! Shouldn’t we love those whom God has loved? Seriously, shouldn’t we show that love to others if we love God? God’s love is different from what the world describes as love. What the world calls love is shallow, empathetic, vain and has no value. God’s Love is the opposite, at the other extreme of the world view. As evidence of that love, it cost Christ His life. That which cost nothing is not a sacrifice. When you’re touching lives and building meaningful relationships to the Glory of God, you’re loving others!
